Training Tip: Fist Flashes
So you’re warmed up and ready to climb.
But WAIT! Have you done your Fist Flashes?
If you live in Canada, or any other zone that gets cold and dry for almost half the year, you know what it’s like to struggle with your grip. While rosin can be a huge life saver on those extra slippery days, you can also gain a lot of traction by making sure you’ve warmed up your grip.
Enter: Fist Flashes, a grip-warming favourite!
The how-to is simple:
Hold your arms straight out in front of you.
Squeeze your hands into tight fists.
Now open your hands as wide and large as they will go.
Alternate between the closed and open position as fast as you can.
To get the full benefit of the exercise, make sure you’re not loosey-goosey with the squeezing (fist) or the opening (flash). Really make those movements as big as possible!
30 to 50 reps is usually enough to get your fingers and forearms burning.
Now when you go to climb, you’ll be working from a better place and your grip will reward you for it. Especially on those cold days that are just around the corner!
