Our Story: Part 4 - Teaching in a New Way

Former students Cas and Jaiden exploring doubles in a knot in our little section at Beyond Obstacles in Muskoka.

The ceilings were low - maybe 12', but we said 14’ 😉 - yet it was enough. Throughout 2015 we trained, created, and taught. We learned not to fear height: with the ground so close, it became clear that was the bigger threat. We gained strength as we fought to maintain every inch of air space.

It was in this space that I met the most incredible student: Jaiden. She was on the autism spectrum, and hated being touched. I remember having no idea how to train someone without touching them! Over time, we developed a system that involved a lot of gentle communication and consent, and she developed into an incredible little aerialist! She's now a young woman, and has moved on from circus arts, but I still cherish the lessons learned and relationships developed.

Thanks Cas Glass and Caroline Peace for your support through that year!
